a toast to making better music because of that!
you inspired me to share this new mission statement for the Society i just put up on Myspace:
" The Immersion Composition Society is an extreme musical subculture spanning communities around the world. A system of fast-moving songwriting games, songwriter 'lodges', and secret listening parties, our 8-year experiment was born for one purpose; to point out and question the limits that creative people place on the things they permit themselves to try artistically. To develop and disseminate surprising new ways that 'tortured geniuses' everywhere might stop thinking and start doing whatever the hell they want all the time. Hopefully this in turn will stimulate a nerdy utopian conversation about creativity and community that will never end ever."
Ok, that was two reasons. _________________ Nicholas Dobson

| Awesome. I'm hopefully gonna try and have a shot at playing the 20 song game with a couple of friends sometime in the near future when we all have a day free. I'm very excited about this concept. |

| Hello ICS denizens, my name is Chris, and I thought I'd check out this intriguing "society" of songwriters who seem to have a similarly hyperactive desire to create as I do. Being a middle age guy with a family, I don't have as much time as I'd like to devote to writing songs, but I'm fighting, clawing, grasping for as much as I can. I don't know if I'll ever have a day that I'm able to do a 20 song game, but just the concept of it gives me ideas and inspiration for ways to begin to clear a creative blockage I am currently experiencing. Whew that's kinda verbose, anyway, hello, nice to be here! |

Well I figured I'd end up here sooner or later. Affiliated with no lodge but don't hold it against me. I'm fascinated by the idea of ICS anyway.
My name is Todd and I live in Minneapolis and have been writing music more or less obsessively since the late 1970s in various bands and solo projects and just never stopped doing so. I'm pretty much squarely in the instrumental category although I'm not opposed to voice, it's not my strength. Maybe ICS is what will get me singing.
My primary instrument is guitar but I also play bass, keyboards, drums and kalimba, banjo and other things as required. I've got a small studio that lets me track until my eyes bleed more or less.
I found out about ICS from two different sources at once: Bullet Lodge member Blake Albinson's stupefying Soundclick page (which has about 100+ songs on it all of which are cool) and the guys over at GtrOblq who watched you from afar.
My curiousity was piqued due to the game playing and the quantity of music done in a sitting - because this is something I'd done on my own for years: if I had a day off I'd write a full album of music and just go on and do it again.
Or I'd try to be as productive as possible in the shortest amount of time. Or write songs while feeding the cats - you name it. Or I'd straddle genres sometimes in the same song.
Anyway, I suppose you should know where you can hear my stuff if you like.
Music pages:
http://www.zebox.com/aliensporebomb <- 3 songs
http://www.myspace.com/aliensporebomb <-10 songs
http://www.soundclick.com/aliensporebomb <- 137 songs
http://www.myspace.com/ionospherecastingshadows <-10 ambient tunes
I've got about another 30 to add to the soundclick but ...
Thanks for listening.

ICS has helped with many a person's singing, so beware! i was a terminally forced singer before ics, and hated singing. that whole situation was turned around almost instantly when i started doing these kinds of sessions. for me the key (other than strengthening the voice by singing a little every day) is diving into the middle of what makes me nervous as a singer. making horrible sounds and trying to make it funny as an exercise. or trying to do impressions of different kinds of singers. there is this burden of having to be myself that is removed by that one.
looking forward to checking out your stuff. dont let me forget. _________________ Nicholas Dobson

Hola folks, I've poked in and out of here but figured I'd follow tradition and drop a post in the intro spot:
*My name is Kevin, and I was born and raised in the East Bay. I am now in Brooklyn and am leading the 668 Lodge - www.668lodge.webs.com
*I play in a "band." www.myspace.com/auntiedepressant
*IMM rocks my face.
*I archive films as a past time. I like early avant garde, French new-wave, surrealist stuff, really most anything that wasn't churned out of Hollywood in the last 30 years or so. Favorites include Godard, Kurasawa, Jodorowski, Luis Bunel, Ingmar Bergman, Maya Deren, Jose Val Del Omar, all sorts of stuff.
*Music rules too. I like lots of it. In my high school years it mostly boiled down to the two Z's - Zappa and Zorn - but seriously I have a massive collection that spans from Ween, Taraf de Haidouks, M.I.A., Mingus, Stockhausen, Wu Tang, Gamelan music, Deerhoof and so forth.
*I am interested in what you do! That is why I am here. Over-the-net collaborations are welcome, so if you want to schedule a day session no matter where you are, hit me up! |

I am still living under a cloud but after a while you kinda get used to it and realise you shouldn't just 'stop' indefinitely.
I am back and missing you guys & gals. I will be coming to a (virtual) lodge near you rsn. _________________ Mike aka 'mcl'
